Web-based Distance Resources
AEPro provides fee-based online professional development courses. AEPro is a joint project of The Center for Literacy Studies at the University of Tennessee and the Ohio Literacy Resource Council at Kent State University.
AdultEd Online provides two online self-assessments for adult educators. One is for distance teaching and the other on using technology in the classroom. Based on the self-assessment results, the program provides tailored recommendations for professional development.
The Adult Literacy Technology Network (ALTN)
ALTN is a national effort focused on using technology to enhance adult literacy. ALTN provides technology resources and professional development opportunities in conjunction with various adult education conferences. It also coordinates the LINCS Technology Training Special Collection.
The California Distance Learning Project
Offers a historical overview of the development of distance education and links to products, professional development, and teaching and learning resources related to distance education.
The Distance Education Clearinghouse
Developed by the University of Wisconsin, the Distance Ed Clearinghouse offers distance teaching certification programs as well as a variety of resources, publications, and statistics. The bulk of materials are geared toward K-12 and higher education.
LINCS - the Literacy Information and Communication System
LINCS is an online information and communications network for adult and family literacy. A part of the National Institute for Literacy, LINCS provides access to resources, including special collections focused on single topics and offers discussion lists and other networking opportunities for adult education professionals.
The National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL)
NCSALL contains extensive links to publications, research about adult education and links between research and practice.
The Outreach and Technical Assistance Network (OTAN)
OTAN provides electronic collaboration, access to information, and technical assistance for literacy and adult education providers in California. Their website provides a range of resources and professional development options for adult educators.
The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA)
The USDLA offers distance teaching certification program and publishes Distance Learning… A Magazine for Leaders, aimed atdistance practitioners who use telecommunications to provide instruction.
